The Riviera pattern offers both a wide leg trouser and shorts option. The style features tucks the entire length of the leg, side seam pockets (although you could opt for no pockets like my chocolate brown pair to get a nice smooth finish on the side seam) and an extra wide waistband with the option to add a belt and belt loops (if you wish).

Skill level:

This pattern is labelled as intermediate due to the skills required to insert a fly front zipper and add side seam pockets, however this is detailed with easy to follow instructions, so a confident advanced beginner will also find this challenging but not impossible!

A basic knowledge of how to use a sewing pattern, and basic sewing machine knowledge is needed for this pattern.

Fabric requirements

This pattern has been designed for light or mid weight woven fabric with little to no stretch.

For the shorts it is recommended to go for something with a little more structure such as a linen, or cotton for example. This helps keep the silhouette nice and crisp when worn.

For the trousers, something with a bit more drape works beautifully. Modal/tencel fabrics always look beautiful with this style and suitings with some drape are also really effective. You could also use a more structured fabric for this such as a lighter weight cordoroy, but this may give a different effect. Remember the legs of the trousers are very wide, so for a heavier fabric you may wish to reduce the leg width a little. This is of course, down to personal preference.
