Workshop information

DRAFT A BODICE BLOCK - Full day workshop 9:30am-4:30pm

In this workshop, you’ll create your own personalised bodice block that fits your body perfectly. Starting with accurate body measurements, you’ll learn how to translate these into a drafted block, before sewing a toile and working through the fitting process. We’ll then apply any fit adjustments back to the block, leaving you with a well-fitting foundation that can be adapted into a wide range of garment styles.

We'd then recommend our pattern cutting techniques class, where you can learn how to adapt this block to create a variety of styles.

With a maximum of 6 students per class, this is a small group setting and is perfect for developing your blocks. The studio is only small, so we keep the numbers low to keep it from feeling too cramped.

Some tea and coffee will be provided, but please bring your own lunch. There's not many places nearby to head too unless you have a car!

Date, Time and location

Various dates available.

The workshop will take place in our container studio on Pollard Yard. The Yard is easily accessible via car or tram, with the closest tram stop being Holt Town and the yard only being a 5 minute walk from here. Parking is available but extremely limited so we would advise public transport where possible.

What will this class cover?

WHAT WILL THIS CLASS COVER?
- Taking body measurements
- Drafting a bodice block from scratch
- Sewing a toile
- Fitting a toile
- Applying adaptations to bodice block pattern

Who is this workshop for?

This is the perfect workshop if you already know how to sew and want to take that next step into drafting your own patterns.

Please note: this is not a class we would recommend for beginner sewers. Ideally you should have some garment construction knowledge before delving into pattern drafting, but if you've used some commercial patterns before and have made a few garments you should be fine.

It's totally fine if you're new to pattern making! This is your first steps and you'll be guided through the process.

What do I need to bring?

CLASS INCLUDES:

No need to bring a machine! Use of our machines is included in this class. Most machines work in a similar way and so you should find the skills transferrable across models. That being said, if you want to use your own machine, please let us know the model in advance and bring your manual with you.
All tools and equipment are included with this class

STUDENTS NEED TO BRING:

Just yourself! We would suggest bringing a bottle of water, your lunch and anything else you may need over the course of the day.
We'd also recommend bringing a notebook and pen but this is optional!
Please also wear a slim fitting top such as a cami top (of course you can wear something over the top of this for the workshop) but when we are measuring and fitting, we want to be able to fit as close to the body as possible.
